Climb the Brandaris. the highest mountain of Bonaire (241m high)! A great adventurous climb. You need to be in a reasonably good shape and not afraid of heights. This climb starts in the Washington Slagbaai Park. You walk over paths with loose stones, and the last part is really climbing on hands and knees over rocks after which you are rewarded with the most amazing view over a very large part of the island!
This walk is on the short Washington Slagbaai route. You drive through the Washington Slagbaai Park, in about half an hour by car, to the foot of the Brandaris mountain. Then the climb begins. In about 2.5 hours we walk and climb to the top. In total, including the tour by car through the park and including pick up and drop off, the entire experience takes about 5 hours.
Along the way, the guide will tell you all about the history of Bonaire and the history of Washington Slagbaai Park. You will also learn all about nature; the plants, trees and animals that you encounter along the way. If you want to cool down after the climb, you can snorkel at Slagbaai where you will also be presented with a delicious fresh lunch.
On Bonaire you are required to buy a Stinapa Nature Tag if you want to dive, snorkel and swim in the waters around Bonaire. Also if you visit the Washington Park you need to have this Stinapa Nature Tag in your possession. You can buy your Nature Tag here or at the entrance of the Park.
Today I climbed the Brandaris, along with the short tour in Slagbaai National Park. A beautiful nature reserve, with very pleasant and relaxed guides, and plenty of drinks and snacks. Definitely worth it!
